They are wheeling out portable beds! What can a debate possibly accomplish when the people debating are sleeping or too tired to know what they are hearing? This isn't a rock concert!

Strangely enough, I think I will tune in to C-SPAN tonight to see the crazy event.

ohiofirefighter42- Would you want a member of Congress at your side in an emergency? Nor would the troops want them their in combat. The jobs are completely different and I want them at their highest level of mental capacity to do their job. The comparison is stupid.

I agree with you. Politics has become so much like showbiz, it's ridiculous. A candidate is now only a product to be bought and sold, being packaged by the huge party machinery that is behind them. Just as there's no guarantee good-looking people make the best musicians, there is no guarantee those who look better on camera are the most competent for public office. Then again, with the enormous amount of people now involved, the politician is mostly just an album cover concept. We have become completely bedazzled by the image.

of course it's ludicrous people start to lose and forget points when they are tired thats why most places which have mass debates have 1/2 hour breaks every few hours. Also the portable bed idea is just stupid if somone with an apt debate or point is sleeping when they would have been making this point/debate then both parties miss out completely on it. Why anyone thinks this is a good way of having a debate i have no idea.

If they had been sleeping during the day instead of playing poker in the conference room, they wouldn't need to have this make-believe debate all night.
Does it surprise anyone that they have portable beds in Congress?---Have they been napping when no body's looking?
Maybe that's what the debate is about.---Maybe some want king-size sofa beds, with better mattresses for their mistresses.

Well....hate to point it out, but since they are debating the Iraq war.......our guys over there do all night operations on a regular basis.
If a company has a crisis, its not unusual for those in responsible positions to pull all nighters.

I think it is a waste and there is no way i would watch it. I have better things to do than to watch fools make mistakes in what they really want to say because they are to tired to answer wisely.

It's nothing more than grandstanding and pandering. They know that people are angry and up in arms and this is a 'display' indicating that they 'care'.
The end result will end up being ZILCH, but people will think that they've worked hard to reach no conclusions. :)

No more so than any of the other stunts to have come out of Congress lately.

It's not a debate. They're trying to decide issues before they go on their break. It's not unheard of, but I still dont understand why they get such a long break.

This is nothing but a show. It has showed us yet again how lame this congress is. Who ever dreamed this crap up needs to just go the hell home and stay there.

at least this way no one can complain about not getting to speak their peace...
maybe if they stay all night they won't forget any of the past testimony.
if this gets things done better I won't complain.
