Yes, I know I have a paper due in a week & I never started writing it, but I have all my resources gathered up. This is my 1st time doing an APA-style paper, & I have no idea where to start. I went to the APA site & couldn't find any help. In an APA paper, do we have to write an abstract, methods, results, & discussion? That's what I was reading that's the format.

I've been deeply depressed & can't push myself to begin the paper. It's due next week. I've been procrastinating BECAUSE of my depression, & it feels like I'm mentally blocked from having the ability to do necessary tasks. My friend told me just start up a rough draft & just start writing ANYTHING & then revise it later, using my sources, but I mentally can't even get myself to do that. What is a sample APA paper supposed to look like? I have to do an argumentative paper on the abuse of Benzo's (addictive psych meds). Please give me a link OTHER THAN the APA site that will help me format this paper.

Also, do you think I can generate a "C" grade of a research paper within a WEEK? Please don't shun or insult me. Depression & not being able to function is part of my mental disorder, & I take medicine & see a psychiatrist for it.

I can provide you with a couple of links that should help with the APA style issue:
http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/
http://www.vanguard.edu/faculty/ddegelman/index.aspx?doc_id=796
http://webster.commnet.edu/apa/index.htm (this one has a sample paper)

As far as getting started, I would agree with your friend. It is important to get activated. One of the principals of treating depression is to get people doing things. The improved mood often follows the behaviour.

Good luck.

I am so sorry about your depression. I know how bad that can be. you are right, it makes even everyday tasks seem insurmountable. It is even harder with something you don't know how to do.

I don't know much about writing papers any more but I will try. You need to come up with your thesis statement. That goes at the end of the first paragraph. Then the paper that follows should support your thesis.

Then write your outline and then your first draft and then rewrite and proof, etc.

Do it step by step. Each step will get you closer to where you want to be. This is the hard part; I am unsure about the formatting but get the hard part done first and then worry about formatting. As you are writting pencil in your sources and list them below. You can get help with that later (maybe even through the college) but get the hard parts done first.

Don't let the style depress you. Just get those words on paper, young lady.

Good luck honey, I wish I could help you more.

I would write the rough draft down on paper instead of a computer and if you have a tutor or library you can go to they can be very helpful. While writing take breaks and get some fresh air. I wish you well.
