You are actually pregnany 40 weeks, which is 10 months. That is just the normal gestation period for humans.

Gestation of 40 weeks is closer to 9.3 months as most months have more than 28 days. Generally speaking, 9 months is the accepted value. However, the actual due date depends on the date of fertilization which is usually not known so the "due" date is always an estimate. Thus the 9 months and a week.
