Can anyone ever compete with ESPN?

I'm hearing a lot of grumbling by people saying ESPN has lost their edge, mainly because they don't have to compete against anyone. Will they ever have legitimate competition? I remember several years ago, CNN and Sports Illustrated had CNNSI, but that faded away. CNN used to have Sports Tonight with with Fred Hickman and Nick Charles, but that seemed like a cheap imitation of SportsCenter. You would think one of the major networks (preferably NBC) would've had the guts to try to take them on with their own 24-hour sports network.

ESPN has a lot of economic muscle right now in the form of the ABC connection. At this point, it would be difficult to come up with a strong competitor.

I would think the most likely source for competition would be Fox, which is interested in sports and already has many regional networks. Could one national network go over? Given time and its deep pockets, it is at least possible. But you'd have to bet a great deal of money, thanks to ESPN's head start.

well i never liked espn because if you arent a fan of yankees or red sox then your team just isnt going to get any coverage im also sick of hearing about :kobe bryant (who raped that girl and doesnt pass the freaking ball), TO (who is a pain and has no class), danica patrick (who hasnt won a race yet) the st louis cardinals won the world series and it wasnt even a blip on the radar on ESPN ps stuart scott your little thing you do is played out get a new act
