Wow, you're DUE aren't you! October is absolutely the best vacation month there is in the US...mostly no snow anywhere yet, glorious bright fall colors starting up in the northeast... and all the summer tourist families are GONE. North Carolina is gorgeous that time of year...the Smoky Mountains, little towns, good local eats, brilliant colors on the mountains...sunny days, crisp nights...etc. Asheville & around there in western NC is most interesting...good local crafts, the Biltmore estate for touring thru, and if you like glitz and hokey fun and some country music, head for Pigeon Forge right over the border in Tennessee. Off-peak rates are lower in the fall too. With gas prices what they are, it's not much of a jump from Florida either!

If your time off is the first couple of weeks in Oct., you gotta head toward New England and see the fall colors!! Maine, NH and Vt are picture perfect (as well as other states) The weather is cooler but usually not snow then. Upstate New York has great colors also and is closer to other touristy areas but if you want rest and relaxation with no city hassles head up north.

I highly recommend Newport, RI. It's not so crowded that time of year and you have the fall colors, and the mansions to visit. It will also have some great pricing because it is the off season. October is my favorite month there. Check out newportreservations.com

No snow here in Canada at that time of year. Actually one of the most beautiful times of year here as trees are changing their colours. Your dollar is still worth more than ours so would be a benefit also. You will need a passport if you do decide to fly north. But if you take your time and drive then no passport required. I live in Ontario so am partial to our leaves changing colours but everywhere in Canada is great at that time of year in reality. Consider us if you do decide to leave your country, I'm sure that you won't regret it if you do. Have a great holiday regardless of where you go and visit.

Well I was going to suggest coming to Louisiana til I saw you're already in the south. What about Tennessee? That's a place I'd love to see.

New England could be fun. You could go to Nashville. Mexico is cheap.
