i am only going on 32 weeks pregnant, and my doctors are worried that i might go into premature birth. they said i am showing signs of contractions (even though i cant really feel them) and i am already dialated 1cm.

they had me go on medical leave from work already, and have me pretty much glued to the bed or couch. they said that too much activity can help encourage an onset of prematur labor.

other then that, i feel fine, except a lil worried...

has anybody else been in a situation similar to this? if i do go into premature labor, what will my baby boy look like when he comes out? i have never seen what a premature baby looks like before. and what are the survival rates for my baby if he is born early? again.. i am going on 32 weeks (8months) this weekend.

I was in the hospital at 30 weeks with preeclampsia and gave birth at 32 weeks to a baby boy weighing in at 4 pounds.

The worst that may happen is that your infant will have to go directly to the NICU. I didn't get to hold him for a week, but that was due to my son's problems breathing.

Just relax and don't worry. Your child will look beautiful to you, no matter what. He'll just be a little smaller. It's hard not to worry, but you're going to be fine. :-) Preemies are great, and before you know it you'll have a bouncing 2 year old running a round!

Just a warning: I don't know if you're going to breastfeed or not, but don't let the nursing nazis get to you. In the NICU they are the worst. Also, preemies tend to be a little more irratible. If you plan on using a formula, skip directly to a soy-based formula.

If your baby is born this early there is a very high chance of survival. I had the same thing happen to me, and I did not go into labor until 38 weeks. But I had to go on leave early and I was on bed rest until 37 weeks. After that point they said it was safe to have the baby, so I started doing stuff then. Bed rest is how I became addicted to this site!

There is a high probability that at 32 weeks your baby would surive and thrive well. I was dialated 2 cm several weeks before I had my oldest. Do like your doc said and stay in bed... the longer your baby stays in the healthier he'll be. Also if born now, he would look as normal as a newborn baby just smaller. There may be... not likely this far but may happen that your baby would have somewhat translucent looking skin. Seriously do as doc said and all should be well. Good luck to you and congrats!

My daughter (17 yrs) just had a baby and she was only 32 weeks pregnant. She went in with contractions 3 weeks ago and she was 4 cm dialated. They kept her for 3 days giving her shots to develop the baby's lungs and to stop her contractions. It worked but then she went back to the hosp on Sunday with more pains. They decided to give her petossin (or however u spell it) to induce labor and yesterday, she had a tiny preemie but healthy, beautiful baby girl. Her head is elongated...very cute! Don't be afraid! You are probably in good hands. PS: They're BOTH going home tomorrow!

A friend of mine delivered a baby at 24 weeks. She was in NICU forever, but the girl is 8 now and doing great! It's so hard to believe because I think she was only a pound when she was born. Technology has advanced so well now, so I think you'll be fine. Just be prepared for the baby to spend some time in the NICU if you do end up delivering early. I delivered my daughter at 38 weeks, and no NICU time :)

I was born premature, and I didn't really suffer any adverse affects later...but I was smaller than other babies, and I spent several weeks in the NICU. I think you should try not to stress...cause right now that's a big thing against the baby. Just try to stay relaxed, and off of your feet. And remember, if it does happen, your baby will be ok. Just give him or her the best chance that you can.

i dont know for sure because all my kids were born just about on time but i really think that 32 weeks is ok. theres a pretty great survival rate. the last thing to develop is the lungs so he might have to have help breathing but other thatn that he will look normal just small. he might have to stay in the hospital till he gains enough weight and can suck and breath correctly. your doctor just wants to keep him in there as long as possible. good luck

my baby was 2 1\2 weeks early and she was fine. she only weighed 6.1 but was otherwise heathly and extremely gorgous. I had a friend that had a baby 5 weeks early and it was fine to the only problem was it was really brused when she came out. every pregnancy is different. its hard to say how yours will go but as long as you are healthy your baby should be. try not to worry so much because that can raise your blood pressure which can also make you deliever early. im sure it will all be fine

Well when I was 6 months I went into premature labor. They stopped it and I was on bed rest on and off for the rest of my pregnancy so good luck it flys by!
