I've heard about every form of this question, and what you don't realize is that your phone conversations have been "monitored" for 50 yrs. Certain flag words set things into motion. The "domestic spy program" has been so blown out of proportion by the media. They monitor conversations originating from or going to phone numbers used by known or suspected terrorists. Same thing with books checked out at the library. Certain books containing directions for making pipe bombs and other such things are available to all. If a known terrorist checks out a book detailing how to build bombs, wouldn't YOU want someone to check them out?
Pres. Bush is in a no win situation here. In 2001, he caught hell for not doing enough to stop the attacks on 9-11. For the last 5 years, he has clearly been trying to prevent another attack and the libs are howling about their rights being violated.
I will ask this question again, how has your life been adversly affected by the patriot act? Tell me just when was YOUR right to "privacy" violated? (which, btw, there is no guarantee in the Constitution. You say it's a "human right", America pretty much determined "human rights" from our Constitution) And by the way, the founders of this country never said that the Constitution was a suicide pact. Governments first and foremost responsibility is to protect the citizens from foreign aggression. You should be glad you didn't live during WWll, I think you would have been surprised at some of the things the government did to win that war.

, The Right To Privacy, is Expected/Guaranteed, in such Common Places as California Real Estate Law, on a Typical, STANDARD FORM *Lease Agreement* been out of The Biz for a couple of years, but up until then THE RIGHT To PRIVACY LAWS were STRICTLY ENFORCED. Cheney/Bush MUST Be Removed from D.C. Before it's TOO Late.. It May Be T L already http://www.911stuff.com/play-4411-Illuminati_9_11.html

I agree. We all have a right to privacy but the government seem to believe they are above that right. I can see why the government want to 'snoop' but I don't want to feel like I'm being watched everywhere I go. I also want to have the right to private telephone calls and e-mails not because I have anything to hide or cover up but because I want my privacy.
The government are getting too comfortable having the power that they do and they are begining to use it to moniter everything we do and everywhere we go. So much for freedom to privacy.

You know years ago we all worried about Big Brother watching us, and we blamed it on Russia. Well what we really need to worry about is the US. Before too long they will want to do away with money, and make everyone pay for everything with debit or credit cards, that way they can REALLY keep track of what we do and when... Its coming....... wait and see

are we talking about ID cards and cameras in town centre sort of snooping ? i think we should all have ID cards and be forced to carry them at all times, if anything it would stop benefit fraud and people using the NHS that they have no entitlement to, and i think town centre cameras in every town would be great so long as the quality of the picture improves after all it would be great for everyones safety particulary at night, the only people to complain are those with something to hide. invasion of privacy has nothing to do with it, in fact i would like to see a DNA database of all newborns, it would cut future crime to practically zero.

Don't agree! they have been doing this for over 100 years, to be safe you need to snoop as you would call it. I call it protecting us from the enemy. In the 1960's people or should I say most parents have gone astray from teaching their children moral values, this is what you should be concerned about.

Yes!! Exactly.
But sadly most people don't think like that and will happily accept the ID card, illegal wiretapping, more cameras everywhere and one day the microchip under the pretence that 'the government is keeping us safe' and 'if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear'... it is very depressing.
