What exactly is she going to do with it? I can't really imagine how much an 8 year old could do with a computer. They'd maybe play edcuational games or something right? If it's for non-educational games, it would be a better idea to go with a console. If I am completly off here, I don't know what she's gonna do.

Anyway, you're going to want a warrenty. As mature as she is, accidents will happen. Because of that, buying one from eBay would not be a good idea. Also, I don't think computers from Newegg come with warrenties (if so, they're most likely 90 day warrenties), so you'd probably want to get the cheapest Dell or Gateway or something around.

Eight years old is way too young for a laptop. Given that laptop computers are very fragile, an eight year old would break it very quickly. If he or she takes it to school the laptop would most certainly stolen. Eight years old is still at the age where the kids need to be supervised when using the computer. Giving kids that young a laptop where they can hide away with the computer especially with a WiFi connection is a bad idea, a very bad idea.

there are a few there that are called basic laptops they dont have all the fancy stuff in the 800.00 models they run at around 299. to 499. a good laptop is one called the ACER notebook. you should find it at best buy. it runs on windows xp. not vista and is around 399. which is cheap for a laptop.
