I was thinking of starting an Ebay store up, I was wondering if anyone has started one and is it hard to get going?
Where would I buy stock from? How would I promote it?

Thanks. :)

Hi,
Be very careful about this. The ONLY way to be competitive selling new merchandise on eBay is to go direct to an overseas vendor. Generally you will have to buy your product in advance of selling online and in bulk quantities to keep your prices low. Companies that offer "drop-shipping" (they house the product and ship it) propose that their merchandise is priced below wholesale. In reality, their items are priced at "below retail" NOT sub-wholesale. The products they offer are already selling for the same amount (if not less) on eBay and other auction venues.

You will promote your store by offering some of your items for auction. If you sign up for a free service with Auctiva.com (there are other services out there but I am not familiar with them) they will offer a scroll bar for your eBay auctions which will feature all of your stores other products.

It is ultra important to keep your rating high as a seller. You are rated as a seller by the customers who buy from you. Other prospective buyers will look at your rating and factor that in to their decision to buy (or not) from you. If you are able to successfully sell products from dropshipping sources (highly unlikely), you are at the mercy of these companies shipping practices. Often the shipping is exorbitantly priced and is not expidited. When you have your own product in hand you control how (packaging standards & shipping services) and when the item is shipped. The more control you have over your product, the better your chances of keeping a high seller rating, hence the more product you will sell.

When researching companies from which to buy, choose a product or products you would like to sell, Google them with the words "wholesale" and/or "sub-wholesale". You should find companies which will give you estimates on bulk orders plus shipping. Before buying from them, make sure you check their prices against eBay prices. Find the same product on eBay and see if you'll be able to make a profit.

I've found a website that offers a bit of insight into what to ask these overseas companies before ordering from them. The url is http://dropshipper-wholesaledropshipping.com/dropship/index.php/2007/06/22/p60

I don't know anything about the manual this site offers and am not endorsing it in any way - but what I've read seems reasonable and it's probably a good starting point.

Great luck to you! The business you have chosen is not an easy one, but you can start to run it from home and with some really hard work, you can make a great success for yourself!

OHSugarblossom had well recommendation. You additionally must carefully track costs and realize up to you'll approximately what you perhaps capable to get on your merchandise. You must purchase matters as cost effectively as feasible and hold your different charges down. If merchandise are being offered too low, you will not be capable to make sufficient cash in case you shouldn't have the quantity. When you purchase wholesale therough drop send offerings, you're relieved from the burdens of stock and purchasing matters that you do not promote. But you pay better costs that you simply might in case you purchased in bulk. Then there also are tax concerns. Make certain that you simply get aware of the tax code related to the variety of commercial institution that you simply opt for, retaining stock, and so forth.
