not all kids get bored from collecting...We are not ignorant...most of us are not that interested in collections. I for example have a collection of over 1,000 coins from over 70 different countries and time periods. You are the one being ignorant by calling us kids ignorant. You should take the time to look around...not all of us are the same. So next time i prefer you chose your vocab much more carefully mister.

Alas, in a fast paced world such as ours, yours may be a soon to be lost art. I myself used to love looking through my Grandparents albums as a child. But the world awaited. I am now 56 and cannot see images clearly enough to enjoy what I used to take for granted.
In the meantime, don't despair, todays kids are marvelous. As usual the squeakiest wheel and all, you don't hear about the "Invisible Majority". Our kids are collecting. I'm my neighborhood Neighbor, Two of my 16 year olds found a Smurf record player for me. They were so excited!!One of them made me a 45 RPM out of plaster with My name on it! They collect interesting things. One boy I know is 13 and has about 20 typewriters, all portables. My record players are all portables....I like to believe I make a difference, It's The Hippie Way....8D}....ignorance is just a way of labeling an education it never all happens in school. Ours were different, After grade 2, I give up. They write on my door with chalk from a bucket held on by the doorknob, one of them is in Iraq with the Air Force. That's four of the kids that have been coming here and learning what to hang onto (friends!)and what not to bother with. They start out writing their names at the bottom of the red door and the taller they get the higher they write. Your question was like a comment on my plan. I'm thinking "It takes a village.....you could open your heart and home in a variety of ways including "asking" question to the kids, not at them. I am disabled now and I'm not erasing the bottom of the door anymore. No new kids, except these here. I spread my straight answers to teens all the time and no subject is off limits. It's not very personal, I don't get the hug, standard price for education at Neighbors House. Feel free to do it too, ask the kids, "do you collect? and get ready to be surprised. Did I mention two of them graduated from High Schol this year, that's six. Not counting spending two hours a day, spreading the word. I am happy to be their Kahuna. Give it a try, you have fun and you will forget all about any of these young people being ignorant. I just Goog'd myself and found out someone in China thinks my site is outrageous! There ya go, did I mention the neighbor kids taught me how to use this thing? Took em eight years so far.

Yuck.
See that's the type of thing that gets us bored.
WE LIKE FUN THINGS.
Who wants to sit around putting coins in little books or making sure the stamps are all in their waterproof cases?
Who wants to do that when you can be outside doing a 360 on your skateboard?
Muahaha.
:]

Ignorant? no were not.
We're bored because everything is taken away from us and dumb laws.
That are trying to protect our safety which is dumb.

Us kids dont want to be grown-ups yet doing stupid coin collectionin, and calling it fun.

We want skateparks, bmx parks, theme parks, malls, fun parks, places were we can hang out, clubs, and just mostly fun!

we dont care about wealth now, that what parents are for, and we learn it around 17 or 18 years old.

so why u calling us ignorant, because you get t-peed? door bell ditched? poop in a paper bag on fire? messed wit? teased by us?

well give us somewhere fun to go then. and dont make it cost 100 dollars to get in.

they live for the day not the future, I am selling my collection and enjoying spending the profits, just a way I saved money for retirement and enjoyed it. you get old fast and a lot of our youth are going to be in trouble at 62 years old!

Because collectables are for old people and are boring.

P.S. Have you already forgotten the Beanie Baby craze?

oh-dear-god. why? anything you collect will accrue sentimental value. by the time they have any value, you can't bear to part with them.

then what? oh, i know. you can pass them down to your kids and guilt trip them if THEY try to sell your precious collectibles. this is how family rifts are created. (my poor insane mother...*reverent sigh*)

Because "collecting" things is something we associate with old people. and it really makes no sense, it just creates clutter.
