First of all, what kind of country has a national school dress code? Shouldn't that be handled at the local level? Secondly, I can't believe hundreds of years after people fled England en masse to escape religious persecution, that the UK would still ban Muslims from wearing veils and Christians from wearing crosses or "purity" rings. How can such a developed nation hate freedom so much?

ed c, I apologize for my misstatement on the national dress code, but still, there are PUBLIC schools in the UK that ban the wearing of crosses or veils or purity rings. That wouldn't fly in America, I just can't believe the UK would restrict freedom so much.

What makes you think the UK "hates freedom?" if it wasn't for countries like the UK, most of Europe would currently be speaking German, and spending Marks.

National school dress code? you've obviously never lived in the UK, there is no "national school dress code" dress codes are decided by the individual school, and its relevant board of education.

The UK does not ban any items of dress in schools, once again you are showing yourself to not fully understand the issue you are trying to discuss. Where any such items have been banned they have been done at a local level (which, incidentally, is the level you state these things should be decided at).

Instead of talking about issues you have no real understanding about, apart from what the media tells you, maybe the next time you want to find out about these kinds of things, you would be better off doing a little research to find the truth.

In fact the UK is one of the more progressive nations in the world, with far more cultural integration than a lot of countries that call themselves "Developed"

There are many people in America that are willing to have a person's freedom of expression taken away just so that person is forced to be like they are. What that same person does not get in their own little pea brain is that eventually a freedom they also enjoy will be removed from their lives too. That is when they whine like babies. Not when they see it happening to someone else. Our society is being over run with thin skinned whiners just like a poster who thinks veils and crosses are limited to the school system. These jello molds need to wise up and read our constitition.

No one hates freedom. That's just Republican/Conservative crap to get you to hate others so they can get you to think they should bomb and kill them in your name. Get over it.
