I guess I would ask why he allowed the devil to reign over the earth for so long. It is not His fault that people die, or people have sickness. It is not His fault that there is war and famine and murder and rape. This is all the work of the devil. Even though there is only a little bit of time left for him(the devil) to be the ruler of the earth, he (the devil) is doing his darnedest to turn as many people against God as he can. The devil wants the world to believe that it is God who creates all the bad that we see when in fact it is the devil himself. He loves all the mayhem of mankind turning on each other.
We can actually blame the devil for World War I as this is around the time that he was cast out of heaven. When mankind was created we were given free will and when Eve betrayed God and Adam did the same, this is where sin and sickness and death came from. Life was never meant to be like this.
So in closing I will say again, the question that I would ask God is "Why did you allow the devil to rule over earth for so long?"

If I had the opportunity to see God and ask him a question, I guess I would say to him, "Didn't you hear my cries all that time?". That's what I would ask God. So many times I pray and I pray and still I feel no closer to happiness and I am sad and lonely in spirit and in heart. Yea, that would be my question.

Dear God, I've given the opportunity to ask you only one question. Is it ok if I ask none?

Why did you do things as you did? As an omniscient being you knew everything that would ensue, and as an omnipotent being you could have made everything whatever way you wanted. I am ignorant, but I confess I have no idea why you chose to make everything exactly the way it is, rather than somehow else.
If I couldn't ask that, then I would try this:
How does free will exist when in your omniscience it is impossible for anything to be any way other than as you foresee it?

Who's the shmuck who said I needed an opportunity, and that I could only ask you one question!?
Just kidding.
Sort of.
Anyway, I really loved the answers from gldnsilnc and phonydem.
I guess it helps one focus on what is important to them if they were restricted to one question, so here goes. Give me a second while I look at it. ...........
I guess, after greetings and some small talk, and being limited to only one question I would (and do) ask
What can I do to help?

Till date I thought being true to ourselves is the God. If I am able to see a figure as God, I will ask him "Is there a possibility of erasing Politics nature from human beings?"

Circumcised?
Okay, okay, okay...
Either that OR: "Why do you shut down the fun for 5-7 days a month?!"
I have to keep the little time I spend WITH god light hearted before he pulls the trap door.

I would ask with this implied preface one thing:
' Now that I have reached this most high state, does it not bother 'you' how any should believe there can remain still a question needed asking? '
