i didn't read everyone's answers so sorry if I'm repeating.
voldemort only knew the first part of the prophecy- the part foretelling about a boy who had born at the end of July to parents who had defied him 3 times. he also knew the part that this boy is the only one with the power to defeat him. now all we know for sure is that voldemort chose not the pureblood Neville, but the half blood harry. because he never heard the rest (that one little thing about a power...lol) it wasn't a bit choice for him. im sure he thought after he killed harry he would go kill Neville to be sure. of course he cant do that, and he is absolutely sure that harry is the chosen one now.
other than that, we will have to wait for Saturday, or really for myself Friday @ midnight.

Dumbledore discusses this very question in Book 6. If I remember right, V. heard only half the prophecy, so didn't realize it could refer to more than one person. DD also says that, by going after Harry, V. CHOSE Harry, effectively taking Neville out of the picture. He could have chosen Neville instead, but he didn't.

Voldemort chose harry almost randomly. The only difference was that harry was half blood like voldemort where neville was pureblood

Voldemort had to choose which would be his equal. He went after the half-blood Harry as he himself was not a pure-blood. Neville, however, comes from a pure-blood family.

voldemort did not go after harry because he didn't hear the whole prophecy due to snape not hearing the whole prophecy from trelawney/dumbledore
voldemort is also rash and i think dumbledore says that he doesn't always think of all the possibilities before he makes a decision

*GIGANTIC SPOILERS READ AT YOUR OWN RISK* Snape is not Harry's father. James Potter is. Snape had been in love with Harry's mom since the day they met. (when he told her she was a witch) On the Hogwarts train, he expressed his thoughts with Lily that Slytherin was the superior house, James Potter and Sirius Black overheard him and told Snape that Gryffindor was the best. From then on, he loathed James and Sirius. Lily was sorted into Gryffindor, and Snape was put in Slytherin, separating them.A few years later, Snape started hanging out with some what would become future Death Eaters, and Lily didn't like that. One day, Snape was being bullied by James, Sirius, Lupin, and Pettigrew. (well, mostly James and Sirius) Lily came to the rescue, but, embarrassed that he was saved by Lily, he called her a mudblood, which was the last straw for Lily. She hated him, but Snape still loved her. In their 7th year, James became nicer, and Lily started going out with him. Then, sometime after they got out of school, they got married and had Harry. Then, she got killed by Voldemort, and you know the rest after that. The basic reason Snape had the same patronus as Lily is because he loved her for most of his life.

We dont actually KNOW yet. I think that it has to be something to do with Snape. I dont think that he's good and I think he told Voldemort. Remember he was the one who listened!!
