A band called Laibach did a version of "One Vision" where they made it sound like a Nazi rally. I think they had a point.

Absolutely! I think there's something wonderful about wanting to recognise, and have everybody else recognise, that people are ultimately the same, and not seeing just external factors. That we all want the same, and most religion has a common theme.
I think it's not too idealistic - it's that we are different, but have some core needs regardless of culture and creed
I even like the chicken - not taking it all too seriously!

Not entirely. I believe that we should all strive for the goal of peace, but to have everyone have the same views on religion and other major issues is not only unrealistic but very confining for people of many different cultures, races and history who will naturally have different views on the issues.
Mercury's quest for world embracing (and fried chicken) was very inspiring though. May he rest in peace.

As much as I love Freddie Mercury and Queen, I prefer U2's "One":
One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers
One life
But we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other
Or better yet, Shirley Bassey's "World In Union":

I think you are all missing the metaphore, this isn't a song about peace its about a kind of love.
