You vote for them...they get paid.
The only performance appraisal they get is re-election.

Politicians should only be paid for days when congress is in session. Their staffs draw enough salary to cover the every day operation of the offices. In most cases Politicians are on a never ending PR campaign. All non essential travel should be paid by the politicians not the taxpayers. Corporate travel arrangements should not be allowed. If Each congressman and senator were given two days in the major cities of their districts along with the days congress is in session everyone would be better off and the cost would be far less than it is now. Those trips all over the world are perks as all that is accomplished is the picking up of bribes not a real evaluation of facts.

That's just brilliant. Cut their pay. That will sure scare the crap out of those zillionaires who run for office. Sure, make the job even more undesirable. We already can't get anyone with a brain to apply. Just lawyers who can't make it in private practice and silver spooners who have nothing better to do.
Did you know that Woodrow Wilson was the only president we ever had that held a PHD? Clinton went to school his whole life an didn't get one. Anyone with a truly big brain and a good education would never be stupid enough to run for office and under your plan the chances are even less likely. I would rather the government paid for college tuition and make everyone eligible for a 4 year draft. If they don't want to go in the Army they can do some other government service. If they screw it up, they have to pay their tuition. This way we are likely to get someone with at least half a brain and once we do, promote him and raise his pay to keep him, not cut it.

There is something wrong with anyone spending time looking for a new job, all the while collecting a full salary from the present job.
Because Americans, at least a good chunk of them, would want to promote a politician from one job to another, a way should be found, to allow campaigning for a new job while holding another.
How about "no compensation" while campaigning for the new job?

the two you didnt examine the object, or you dont comprehend it. the biggest reason they voted against it, (beside the 50% pay shrink) became so they'd pass to different GM flora. it is not like the vote became even close. i admire how human beings such as you could lob insults at people who've been thrust into such intestine wrenching judgements of their lives. are you able to think of happening your interest at some point, doing the comparable artwork for a million/2 the pay? I cant. in straightforward terms a brutal place to be in.

Because we let them. We could remember that you're out campaigning instead of doing their jobs by voting against them.
