What are your thoughts on this? Do you think the experts are right? Just think about something worse or equal to 9/11 coming for us this summer. What is your gut reaction to the possibility and will it affect your political stance at all if, God forbid, it comes to pass?

ldscow:
I couldn't disagree more strongly. Those things aren't what emboldened Al Queda. Our attacking Iraq was the perfect recruiting tool for them and it has worked admirably. It isn't as if they just got inspired by our politicians, they've been hating us and planning our demise for many a year.

"g" was completely right imo, I think you should read his answer and try to look at this from a different perspective. You may not like the "liberals" but nothing they have done has contributed to the increase in Al Queda members. That honor belongs to the U.S., for not crushing them like bugs when we had the chance in Afghanistan. We have accomplished little but inspiring more hate against us in the Middle East and strengthed their resolve to destroy our country and our spirit - which they will NEVER accomplish. They don't understand us any better than we do them.

I just want to say something to all of those who believe that another attack is not imminent or likely, and that this is just another scare tactic cooked up by Bush and Co.

Well, you could be right, in fact you probably are. But the fact remains that despite all the Administration's machinations and manipulation of our fear, Al Queda does exist. They never stop looking for ways to seriously damage this country. Bush & Co. may be blowing smoke up our wazoos but that doesn't exclude or diminish the chances that Al Queda really does have horrifying plans for a new attack. Do I rely on the media to let me know when? Not just no, but hell no. Chertoff doesn't phase me either. But I do tend to pay attention to the terrorism experts I see on the political shows, ones that aren't Bush toadies that is. I think while Bush & Co play with our heads a real tragedy may come down the pike while they're planning their next fear tactic.

Just my thoughts, and thanks everyone.

oh... it's scary...

ever since we decreased our troops in Afghanistan and went to Iraq... around 2003... there have been reports of al-queda building back up and gaining strength... and then more recently these reports have been even more pronounced and more dire...

and these are the people that attacked us... which we clearly didn't get...

you can agree or disagree with the U.S. being in Iraq... but either way, the timing was horrible and we clearly didn't finish the more important job of destroying al-queda first...

and now they are even helping to destabilize Iraq... creating a mess there that's hurts our ability to get al-queda...

I am surprised it hasn't happened already. The United States is and always will be vulnerable to a terrorist attack, whether it be international or domestic terrorists. That is the price we pay for living in a free Country, where our individual liberty is protected. I would not be willing to give up any of my Constitutional rights to "fight" against something as ephemeral as terrorism. A part of me says this is an attempt by the Bush Administration to, once again, use fear to rally the people around the war in Iraq.

I think Chertoff's gut feeling is gas and the intelligence agencies I trust no further than I can spit, I think they blow a bunch of smoke up our butts for the administrations agenda. If we go by their intelligence al-Qaida is alive and well in Pakistan yet nothing is being done. Six years after nine-eleven the borders are still open and securing them should have been priority one the day after nine-eleven. Affect my political stance? Absolutely not, it would however piss me off even more than I am about our borders not being secured. It's only a matter of time until it happens again. We should be doing everything in our power to secure America in preparation of that event.

Ken is right on the money...you have to admit something screwy is going on here and I suspect more secrets like the Family Jewels will become more and more the norm as we go along. I have seen this coming for a long time with our leaders in so deep with the Saudi's, it could only bring trouble. Sadly it is rapidly becoming every man for himself. Will Bush pardon or invoke executive privilege after the next 9/11 to protect the Saudi's or the CIA's involvement and creation of al-Qaeda...you bet.

Not much to say about that other than the fact that yes, I believe we will be attacked again. Through no fault of ours. We must be right 100% of the time and that is impossible at all times under ANY leadership.

Will it change my political stance?

Nope.

Do you believe that Intelligent Report was lost this morning the news just happened to find a copy. I think it was intentionally lost because Bush wanted to get his word out , Al Queda is going to strike us somewhere in the USA and we need to keep the troops in Iraq to stop him. Do you really believe it just fell conventionally in the hands of the news group, Hmmmnnn.

I read an article on www.911truth.org this morning, you might want to look into it, it goes on to say, we have more to fear from our own government than we do al-queda. If in the event something happens in this country it just may be Bush trying to regain the popularity he enjoyed post 9-11 with which he will gain support to invade Iran...Beware of the false flag, the threats we hear could be "I told you so" in advance

Thanks for asking. I believe we will most definitely be attacked again. We should dare never to let our defenses down. There are countless ways we could be attacked. It will most likely be a more innovative form than on 9/11 and probably just as devastating.
My political stance remains unchanged.

I think that congressional flip-floping, Reed saying the war is lost, the debate over funding and timetables have all emboldened Al Queda. We do not operate in a vacuum and irresponsible actions such as those come back to haunt us. If an attack on US soil does come about, I think it fair to blame it solely on the Democrat Congress although it will be blamed on GWB. It will strengthen my opposition to the current Congressional Leadership. Many of them, Pelosie and Reed particularly, are committing acts of treason in my mind, and are much more detrimental to our safety than Bush.

I think the press will continue to escalate the fear factor until the 2008 elections. OLB can't recruit more jihadies without Bush. And, Bush can't get his way unless he scares Americans too death with the possibility of attack. They are advertantly or inadvertantly working for eachother.
It just seems very obvious that there is something other than terrorism or the threat of terrorism that is at work here.
I find it interesting that Chertof said that al Queda loves summer to attack. Hmmm, how would he know this?
This is all another tactic to scare Americans to raise the amount of money to fuel the corporate dominated military industrial complex profiteers. Before Al Queda, it was the Russians. The military needs more money to keep spreading it's bases into more and more countries for the American empire.
I believe Al Queda is a real threat, but nothing like Russia was when it had everyone of it's nuclear weapons pointed at our american cities. We were in much more danger then.
