"Hamas has committed terrorist acts, but it is also a movement of the people. For the West not to recognize a government that was democratically elected ... it is not a very good lesson in democracy," said Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D'Alema.

I agree 100% with that statement. Anyone who calls him a leftist nutjob doesn't understand democracy.
The west has a blatant double standard. George W. Bush has killed far more than Hamas ever did. Therefore it is justifiable to refuse to recognize the Bush administration.

A lot of people can't see the fine line between terrorist / freedom fighter.

Were the Jews that bombed people in Israel in the 1950s terrorists?
Were the roundhead rebels that formed the first common parliament in England terrorists?
Were the people that tipped the British tea shipment into the sea just before the American war of independance terrorists?

Are the palastinian people, supporters of Hamas - the democratically elected party, terrorists for fighting against an occupation of their country by an jewish invading force that took their land in the 1960s terrorists?

Hamas is fighting for freedom.

Sounds like a hopeful attempt to appease Hamas and not be a terror victim. Especially in light of the sectarian fighting they just engaged in at the beginning of July. Duly elected government don't need to shoot on the other party in the goverment. If that were commonplace, there would be very few Democrats alive on Capitol hill since Republicans are continually armed.
