It's a myth that dates back to the 19th century. Having sex is supposed to drain your "vital fluids," and weaken you. It's hogwash.
On the other hand, when it comes to contact sports, it doesn't hurt your performance to look at an opponent and think, "You're the reason I didn't get laid last night."

Cause sex is exercise. You wouldnt want an athlete to run a couple of miles the night before a game because it would tire him out and his performance the next day in the game would be not as good.

It's an old wives tale, put to rest by Joe Namath who publicly stated that he had sex the night before winning the superbowl.
Sex uses about as much energy as 100 yd dash. A good athlete can recover from that in a few minutes.
If you did it all night and didn't sleep it could be a problem, not because of the sex, but because of lack of sleep.

Actually it is not the sex that tires out the athlete, but staying up all night looking for it. Having sex should relax you and let you get a good night's sleep, so you will be rested and not nervous.
