Or has the US government created a system of bureaucracy that has created enough internal rules and regulations to thwart that which is contrary to the administration in charge at the time?

Every citizen has the ability to implement change, the problem lies in the fact that many do not take advantage of the opportunity. There are so many different causes, issues, and candidates today, that you would be hard pressed not to find one which is in line with your beliefs and/or ideology. In order for the electorate to work to its fullest potential, we must be willing to stand up and fight for what we believe in. Those who sit back and say "I am just one person, I can't make a difference" are not only wrong, but they are representative of the apathetic attitude which is prevalent in much of today's political arena.

Grassroots organizations can still affect change. Look at what's happened to stop the amnesty bills that have come up in Congress. If the Senate felt safe, they would have voted that into being but there was such a huge outcry be people who were ready to organize and toss the incumbents out that the bill died without a full up or down vote.

Grasstroot organizations work because politicians are scared and want to be love. Nothing sobers up a man in power faster than a group of people who don't like him and want him out now.

No. Grassroot movements have never had the ability to implement government change. We like to think otherwise, but it ain't so.

We already proved that the American Legal Citizens can, and did just that, with the Illegal Aliens Amnesty Bill that we all crushed.
It is getting easier to united the American Citizens because the Politicians in Office are thumbing their noses at us, and calling us Names.
They believe that they are the Power, and that we Citizens are only getting in their way.
Well, the AMERICAN LEGAL CITIZENS KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF US, AND YOU ALL WILL BE IMMENSELY SURPRISED COME THE NEXT ELECTIONS.

I want to form my own grassroots organization to influence our politicians to do the right thing. The only problem I have is finding people who are as into politics as I am for most of my generation doesn't care. I do.

I think they keep us so confused, and lost in the argument about the problem ... that we can no longer see the forest through the trees

... its hurts my soul to be treated like an idiot, and I am apathetic about it

my hope is that humanity is ready for the next paradigm ... and all of this will cease to matter

it depends on how low in the government we are willing to aim for. The highest part of our gov't has become an exclusive dictatorship and unless we completely overthrow the gov't and start over, nothing will change way up there.

well.. that is what Huckabee is trying to prove.. that the average joe still can make a difference... not that I would vote for him.. but it's hard not to keep up with him when he is the ex-governor of your state lol. anyway many polls have him in the top 5 in the republican race.. not bad for not being a traditional contender.

We just did it. The vast majority of Americans were opposed to immigration reform and amnesty. We let our representatives know. They dropped the matter.

There aren't any other issues where the vast majority of Americans agree, so it's bickering as usual.

Change is part of being an American citizen weather you have grassroots or not. We elect the officials and what they decide is what we are stuck with, Until the next elections take place.
