I have a 1997 Windstar van. Lately it has started to rattle. I don't know what this means. It rattles when I turn the steering wheel and when I hit on the brake. It seems to rattle even when I idle. Please tell me what is wrong.

Sounds like you have a rattle in it.

Rattle every time you step on brake - Front brake rotors might be warped.

Rattle on steering, not braking - problem with tie rod in front suspension.

Rattle at Idle all the time - might need a tune up or check the problem with engine mount.

You probably just need to clean out your fuel system. Go to Autozone and get some STP fuel injector cleaner, STP fuel additive, STP octane boost, and HEET water remover. Mix these up in a gallon milk jug and pour that down the gas tank when you fill up (be sure to fill up with 93 octane). This will run through your engine, you'll burn out all the gunk, and it will be purring like a new Camaro. Hope this helps!!!

Could be your catalytic converter coming apart inside. This usually coinsides with a lose of power too, but not always. Take it to a muffler shop and have it inspected.
