it is rather simple. people want to believe.

i know several great card tricks. that are so simple that it is not funny. but people see them and go all GA-GA over it. same with the floating cup trick. it is simple. Levitzations of the Criss Angel variety are very real looking. but have a simple mubndane secret. but even when people can see in plain sight the clues that would give the illusion away. their mind wants to believe so they simply do not process little bits of information.
