I think he's disconnected. And since this seems to be the minority opinion here, I'd like to take some time to explain why I feel this way.

Even at best, a president is protected by a circle of people, he is dependent on them to know what's going on in the world, and to judge the attitudes and opinions and feelings of the American people. Administrations go to a lot of trouble to do this, polling Americans and keeping an eye on changes in public perceptions or opinions, and preparing a daily extract for the president to read. Presidents will even assign committees to work on certain problems, do focus groups or polling to test ideas and plans.

But not this president. He had his own ideas before going into office. He didn't have his own knowledge, just ideas, and he trusted people who supported and reinforced those ideas. Anyone in the admin. who disagreed was either fired or quit, and soon he only had people in his administration who agreed with him. His agenda was set before he ever got into office and everything he's done in 6 years has supported this original agenda.

Just for example, it is a matter of undisputed record that Bush came into office planning to invade Iraq and oust Saddam. He used the 9/11 disaster as a justification to do what he wanted to do all along. Generals who told him that it wouldn't work, including his own secretary of state, were fired or induced to quit.

Bush seems pathologically unable to reconsider an opinion, to admit--even to himself--that he might have made a mistake and it's time to try something different. This a very bad quality in any kind of manager. He's gotten some really bad advice but always rewarded the advisor, not because the advice was good, but because it was what he wanted to hear, what he'd like to believe.

Everything came easy for Bush all his life. He got into the TANG ahead of a long waiting list. He failed in every business he was ever in, but did personally better, only losing other peoples' money. In fact he never earned an honest dollar in his entire life. So he thought being president would be easy too! He must have believed himself a genius, or perhaps leading a charmed life. I'm sure he must wonder why he's so low in the polls today when he's really only acting the way that has been so successful in private life.

That's one of the most obvious questions. Bush is completely out of touch, as is the Congress. Bush has doubled the size of the Department of Education, to the disgust of everybody. Bush's Medicare Part D Drug Program has been a disaster and should be repealed. Bush has prevented us from importing prescription drugs at lower prices from Canada to benefit Big Pharma. Bush's War on Iraq continues despite the opposition of 70% of the American people. Bush won't shut down the IRS, even though I'm certain the vast majority of the American people wish it would go away. Bush even threatens a country that is no threat to anybody (Iran) to the disgust of the people.

Bush is way out of touch with the American people.

On some levels he's connected on others not. Like any president he has good points and bad. I think he is stead fast on his convictions and is not swayed by opinion polls. he has been the most bashed and criticized president I've ever seen yet he takes it in stride. He seems to take his job very seriously and has a deep respecft for the office he holds. It's hard to guage how all of America feels about him now but remember he did win two elections. Despite what some say about him cheating lol. That's just sour grapes. I think the "main stream media" and democrats with their relentless Bush bashing are swaying some to jump on the hate Bush bandwagon without doing any research on their own. They give him no credit for a good economy or for putting back our intellegence agencys enough to stop any further terrorists attacks here at home and I know some appreciate that. Hard question to answer though excuse my ramblings lol

President Bush connects with American people all of the time, on TV and on the radio. Some people agree with some of his policies. Some people don't agree with some of his policies. We have 300 million people in the US. There may be millions of different opinions.

I think he is connected. I look past the media and the opposition who are trying to divert attention to fulfill their own agenda.
