You will need to go to Symantec's site and download there UnInstaller. Even then unless you Go to REGEDIT from the Start RUN function and remove all Norton from your registry you will still have remnants of it on your machine. This is not for the UN informed to attempt. I suggest you contact Symantec and have one of there techs walk you through it.
Using the Uninstaller may be enough to get your computer working again with some semblance of order again.
Boy I'll bet you learned a valuable lesson.

Norton is extremely hard to remove because it installs its self into multiple sectors or your computer hard drive in order to provide all round protection and the add/remove utility in windows will not remove it completely and neither will using the Norton install program.

What you need to do is download the Norton Removal Tool from this website

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Download it onto your desktop and then once it has downloaded and installed run the Norton Removal Tool, this will remove ALL of Norton and completely wipe Norton from your computer

Remove it from Add/Remove Programs including the Live Update. I would also check Norton's site for your specific program and ensure that there are no registry settings left in the registry but be careful because if you make a mistake in the registry it could be bad. Make a backup copy of the registry first. You can then go to Google and find a free program called regclean which when ran will completly remove any broken links in the registry and completly remove Norton.
