What I am confused is if temp.rises after ovulation occurs, isn't it too late to conceive? From what people talks is there are good chances if you already hv sperms in there already. My periods r sooo irregular that I don't know when ovulation will occur.
Any help?

Charting your temps does only help to know after you've ovulated, but by charting your temps you will have a better idea of when you ovulate and using this in addition to charting cervical fluid helps to have sex at the right times the following months. Since you are irregular it may not be as helpful in knowing when to have sex, but you will be able to know when it has already happened so you don't have to stress about having sex for the rest of that month and after a few months you will be able to tell when exactly your period is going to be because the lutal phase (time between ovulation and period) is always the same every month even though from period to ovulation changes.

BBT helps you to make sure that you have ovulated. Once your temp goes up its usually too late to try because the egg is only good for about 24 hours. If you had sex the night before than there is a good chance of concieving.

The reason I am keeping my basal body temp is to watch for patterns and if for some reason I dont concieve in a year I will have something to show to the doctor.

Good Luck and baby dust to ya :)

It doesn't help you to become pregnant, it tells you if you have ovulated. I use OPK's in addition to BBT. The OPK's give you about 24 hours notice of ovulation, but since sperm can live for 5 days you want to be having sex before the test comes up positive.

i hated charting my temp, it was such a freekin pain in the butt!!! I talked with my doc and he said that normally you will only see a difference in your temp AFTER you ovulate which wouldn't help me if i was ttc. Try getting some ovulation tests instead, they are much easier to read and all you have to do is either pee on a stick or spit on a microscope.
