i was talking to the helpine the samaratans about my predicament in life, about my hopes and dreams, dreams of emigration from the uk eventually to ca or the u.s...i was telling her i get depressed because i dont no how im going to do it and that im 30 and battle borderline personality disorder.....she wasnt saying very much, which i found quite infuriating, it was like talking to thin air, like talking to myself....
but she did say one thing in response to me talking about my long term goals of emigration from the uk. she said
'' you no your going to have to fight for it dont you? '' '' you no your gonna have to fight for what you want?''......

and ever since i spoke which was yesterday, ive been wondering what she meant by this...does she mean im going to have to physically fight to try and accomplish my dreams?
can someone possibly explain?
theres no way im prepared to fight physically for anything. ive already had life rough i wont accept fighting for my ambitions in life.

At times I enjoy talking to someone who is as intelligent as I, you see I don't argue with myself or disagree with myself. Now isn't that great. I know stop lying but we have to have some humor or we will all go nuts. What the lady was trying to tell you this is not going to be easy. To fight is to go after what you want, not physically hitting someone but mentally. Life is never easy, if it was everyone would be rich.

I am not familiar with Samaritans, but it could be a volunteer service for crisis management. Many volunteers in the mental health field have good hearts and want to help others but do not really have the education nor training for in-depth counseling. Therefore, sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't depending on who receives your email, call, etc. Apparently, you did not feel heard or validated by the receiver of your email which is unfortunate. You can complain, yes; but I don't think it will do much good if Samaritans is an organization which I described. Also, sometimes even trained counselors lack empathy and / or cannot connect with a specific client. I might suggest you just write off that experience and keep looking for help elsewhere.

I've spoken to Samaritans before. They are there to listen to you but they don't usually give much advise they are there as someone to talk to. Maybe she meant your gonna have to fight your depression, your negative beliefs about things, your anxieties about how you immigrate to the US, your personality disorder and your worries about 30 etc. To get what you want you got to put some effort in to it, in to getting well, in to going to the US instead of sitting there and thinking you can't do anything. You have fight the negative thoughts and tell your self you can do it and start doing it.

I think you should really talk to a therapist they will be able to help you with your depression and help you deal with your issues.

She wasn't suggesting that you do your usual silly trick and try to beat six kinds of bells out of anybody (that's how you get broken knuckles and bent fingers that don't heal!) - she meant you will have to work hard in order to achieve your goals, but as you'll be too busy wallowing in self-pity and boring us all to near death by constantly writing about it on here, I doubt if you'll actually do anything to help yourself. Although you haven't said so I take it for granted that you threw her a load of verbal abuse before you slammed the phone down, because that's your usual reaction isn't it ! She's quietly letting you unburden yourself by sitting there patiently listening to your tale of woe and not interrupting your flow - and even THAT'S wrong in your estimation. NOBODY will ever be able to be "in the right" as far as you're concerned, will they!

I think she means fight figuritvely. Meaning do the things neccesary to make it happen.

We have to put up the good fight, for anything worth having...if it means anything to you at all, you can never give up..that's all she meant...keeping your head above your problems, is a fight, if you think about it,...that is all she meant, keep up the good fight. if you want to succeed
