God, I hope not. The world is severely over-populated as it is. Think that pollution, poverty, and hunger are big problems in the world now? Double our lifespan, and double the problems.

Yes, this could theoretically happen.
Telomerase is an enzyme which protects the ends of the chromosomes during replication and division. It is currently thought that the aging process occurs due to the destruction of the ends of the chromosomes, which can be prevented by telomerase. There has been some research done and still being done on telomerase.

According to the CDC, in the US, the top 10 causes of death in 2004 were:
Heart disease: 654,092
Cancer: 550,270
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 150,147
Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 123,884
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 108,694
Diabetes: 72,815
Alzheimer's disease: 65,829
Influenza, Pneumonia: 61,472
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 42,762
Septicemia: 33,464
These ten causes account for around two thirds of all deaths. While age *can* be a factor in all of these causes, none are specifically *caused* by aging. Only Alzheimer's tends to exclusively effect the elderly.
If Alzheimer's, diabetes, cancer, stroke, and heart disease, were significantly reduced or eliminated,(and I might add, smoking and alcohol consumption) then, the average life expectancy could be theoretically extended to 100 and beyond.

What's the point. Social Security is almost all gone now, so
how will you feed them and all the ones who are starving now.
There are illegals tapping into our "aging Social Security"
already. I am not saying that people entering the country don't
need money, but don't take everything out of "our" Social
Security. Have it taken out of the Governments Pension Fund.
And see how they feel. :-})

That's just the dumbest idea I've ever heard.
People are already living beyond their usefulness.
