I don't think any of us - liberal, conservative, whatever - actually WANT abortions. Okay, maybe some do, but this question is for the rest of us that don't.

Women have abortions because of a pregnancy that, for whatever reason, they don't want. From a medical analogy, I believe that the diagnosis is unwanted pregnancies, but if abortion is made illegal, does that attack the symptom rather than the cause of the illness? What, then, can be done to cure the illness of unwanted pregnancies and, from a social perspective, not just use a band-aid to cover the bullet hole?

A few of you don't understand the term "analogy". I'm trying to look at this issue from the perspective of a person trying to solve a problem.

Unless you don't think that there is a problem, in which case you can say that. Otherwise, write your own analogy.

Regardless of whether you feel that abortion is right, or if it should be illegal, you all appear to stress sex education as a key component of reducing abortion, and NOBODY supported abstinence-only education. Everybody seemed to support providing accurate information regarding protection, consequences, and contraceptives. In other words, attacking the problem at its source, and not just healing the wound.

The next question might be how to supply this education. Public schools? Mandatory course for a G.E.D? At home? I guess it all depends on whose information you trust your children with.

Good question...I agree I mean I don't think people love abortion but sometimes women face desperate situations in which there is no other alternative but I think trying to promote birth control/ safe sex is one way but we need a new and more interesting way to get the message out their especially to young women and teens. I also think there should be classes at school to teach it but not just abstinence classes but classes really showing the impact of having a baby that you cannot support or an abortion. Maybe guest speakers to come in...but you know it is hard especially to put this in the minds of young people who do not think about the consequences.

I'm going to start off by apologizing first to any one i may offend. I just want people to think about something’s before they are against abortion.
The reasons why people do what they do. Their reasons are honestly their own opinion. Now one way to lower the amount of abortions in the U.S. is to make sure young children are educated properly at the correct age. There is the issues that generally a lot of people run into which is, would it be better if more free preventions were available? Such as birth control, condoms ect. Then you’re running into more people having sexual experiences risking more accidents and possibly raising the amount abortions. As listed though nothing is better that abstinence. That is the one true prevention.
The problem i run into is not whether or not is right or wrong. It is the people that believe it's wrong but still have sex by using prevention. If we get in that whole topic of your playing god and god makes the decision. Then someone please someone me answer this.
1. why do people that do not believe in abortions use prevention so that they do not have get pregnant but still have sex? If you ask me that is like abortion because you are preventing what could happen. Playing god.
2. Yes there is a point that it is considered murder. Only after a heart beat begins. At that point it is considered alive. If someone where to get an abortion before the 6 weeks, before a heart beat begins is that still considered murder or an abortion???
3. What about the morning after pill. That is a preventative, also like abortion. It kills that sperm before it develops into a pregnancy sac. Again playing god.
4. This is the long one. Here is the good ol' saying. God creates all, there for he meant for this to happen. If god meant for the human race to have children then we should if god created abortion then it should be available, if god allowed us to find or create preventions then it should be allowed as is any other conceptive. God has a plan let people live we choose.
Now to the good practitioners’ that either do not have sex or they are they do but they open to the consequences then i say no more. The one true way to keep anything from happening is to stop it where is begins.
Honestly im not the most religious person, but generally the people are against abortion are. Again i do not mean to offend but there is more than just one side.

Most abortions are performed for elective reasons - in other words, non-medical. The motives vary, but usually it's 'wasn't ready,' 'too young,' 'don't have enough money,' 'boyfriend left me when he found out,' 'don't want my parents to know I'm pregnant,' and the miscellaneous 'I don't want to have a baby right now.' I don't know if there are any social cures for these women. To some degree you could try to reduce the shame attached to premarital sex and premarital pregnancy, but I think that's already occurred in society. When my cousin got pregnant in the late '60s, she was "sent away" to live with my grandparents until the baby was born. That doesn't happen nearly as much any more. More people live together and have children out of wedlock than ever before.

So, to answer your question, I just can't say there's a solution that exists. Babies are big responsibilities and people plan to keep having sex before they're married, which results in a lot of women wanting to terminate their pregnancies and a lot of guys supporting that decision.

I should say that I'm pro-life and I want to ban abortion, but I'm not necessarily opposed to figuring out the reasons that so many women choose abortion. At the end of the day, though, it's as irrelevant as why men rape or why people murder. I know it's wrong and that's all I really need to know concerning the illegality.

If abortion is made illegal, abortion will just move into the shady underworld of back alley abortions. Outlawing abortion isn't the way to reduce it - rather to reduce abortions you need to reduce unwanted pregnancies. To do that you need better sex education taught in schools as well as promotion of contraceptive use. Enough of this silly abstinence only education crud. Yes, abstinence is the only 100% effective method of preventing pregnancy, but it's also not a realistic goal. Since time immemorial, randy teenagers have been engaging in sexual activities and the only way to lessen the risk factor for pregnancy is to encourage contraceptive use and proper education about safe sex.

First and for most, we need better sexual education in our schools. I understand that it should not be the responsibility of the educators to do the parents job, unfortunately nowadays there are too many parents who choose to turn a blind eye to their duties as parents. Furthermore we need to improve access to birth control for all people, not just those who have insurance. While I do believe that abstinence is the best option, I have to be realistic, moral values don't seem to be that high of a priority these days, making abstinence the least viable alternative.

There are numerous things that can be done to reduce the number of abortions.
Talk to your friends and let them know that you oppose abortion.
Inform others of the alternatives to abortion.
Make it easier for pregnant women to continue their careers and education--by making sure that schools and companies provide changing tables, maternity leave, child care, etc.
Stay informed on the issues.
Vote pro-life.
Write your representatives urging them to stop funding Planned Parenthood and abortion.
Write letters to the editor.
Volunteer at crisis pregnancy centers.
Donate to the pro-life movement.
Consider adoption.
If you are religious, raise the issue of abortion at your place of worship.
Open your home to a pregnant girl.
Open your home to an "unwanted"child.
Teach your children and other young people to avoid random, premarital sex.
Boycott pro-abortion companies, landlords of abortion clinics, and businesses that share space with clinics.
Post signs all over your neighborhood with addresses of people willing to take the baby with no questions asked and have them put up for adoption.
There's a role for all of us to play, and it's important that we find and fill that role.

Real life face to face with teenagers about preventing pregnancy. The morning after pill is a great step forward but needs to be more available. Educating girls that pleasing boys does not make them women, just like getting laid does not make a boy into a man.

first of all pregnancy is not a symptom of anything, it is an event that happens. Pregnancy is also not an illness, Aids, Polio, Cancer are all illnesses. When a woman gets pregnant because she chooses to do should doctors immediately begin treatment to cure her "illness". Abortion is a legal medical procedure, like any other procedure. Are you against them all ,because why would god okay one medical procedure, while disallowing another, Grow up, religion does not rule this world.

good sex ed. All the statistics show that education about contraception is the best way to prevent unwanted pregnancy.

Abstinence is an ideal, teens will always have sex, they need to be prepared for the responsibility.
