Train travel generally works in places of high population density. Therefore, the Boston-Washington and San Francisco-San Diego corridors would be the best spot for such a plan.

But even then, the cost of an entirely new monorail would be expensive. It would be easier to upgrade Amtrak service, which isn't too bad on the east coast and pretty convenient.

There has been talk of something along these lines for some years. Economically speaking, it would be very expensive. Engeneeringly speaking it would be very challenging.

However, in the sense of world awareness and international relations...I think it could be a GREAT thing. It is easier to be friends as a nation when your friends with persons from other countries.
