Other children will hate them because of the fear of being lesser or simply not understanding them. Kids will pick on you, that's what they do. Been there, done that.
You have two choices at that point, be a wussy or stand up for yourself. If you make the impression that you wont take any crap early on then it'll last a long time.

Also, the getting bored and worse grades because of it that baba yaga mentioned.
I always compared most activities in school to tying and untying your shoes 50 times in a row even though you are already fully competent at doing it. Just a bunch of bullcrap busywork for someone who has already learned it the moment the concept was presented. I hated school a lot...

Besides the many good points mentioned here, I would like to add that many times teachers and others don't know what to do to help the children progress. Many talented children are talented enough to do well enough that people think they know what they are doing, and they don't. I can remember one person who didn't learn how to study until they were an adult and had to pass a licensing exam because they found it easy to just read something and pass the test.
Other children do not know how to relate to talented children. Often talented children feel isolated because they can't find anyone to talk to because no one is really interested in the same things they are.
Many talented children burn out because they do not know how to control burning desire to know things. Many things do not occur quickly enough and they are often impatient. Many die at younger ages than usual for various reasons.
Then again, many decide to opt it of the academic existence and ride motorcycles, become policemen, or bums on the beach.

laziness becuase they get used to everything coming to them easily, and they think that hard work is evidence that they aren't smart enough.
