Heartsteps
How could he betray you?
He is so cruel
You offered him the flower of your heart
Caressed its petals
Embraced its wonderful scent
And gave it all to him
What a silly fool you were
He didn’t take care of it
He didn’t put it in a nice vase with water by the windowsill
Occasionally looking upon it with love
Oh, no
He ripped apart the petals
One by one
Dropped the mess on the ground
And stomped and squished and ruined
Now you kneel before your torn heart
Picking up the pieces
Gathering them carefully as you cry
You try in vein to put it back together
But it just falls apart again
You silly fool
How could you do this to your own self?
Did you expect that his love for you
Would fix your already trouble heart?
You were so fragile
A whiff of hate would send your taped heart into scattered pieces
So why did you trust so hard?
How can you fix this mess
When you can’t take good enough care of yourself?
But I know

First you have to breathe again, and move on
Gather your weak legs
And your broken heart
And take the first step
Toward life again
