I have an emachines T3256, and in my recent move I must have tossed the cable I used to connect my desktop to my modem.

When I went to reconnect today, I learned that my eMachines only has the traditional phone jacks and not a wide cable jack. Is there a name for the type of cable i need? I must have never noticed when I initially connected.

Thanks!

You just need a standard network or ethernet cable, or "wide cable jack" as you put it.

Reading the spec's on Emachines website, it says the machine comes with a 10/100 ethernet jack on it. Most likely it is up by where you plug the USB and the Monitor in on the back.

According to the link below your computer has an integrated v.92 modem - plug that into a telephone connection if using that.

A 10/100 Ethernet port (looks like a phone connection but has 8 pins instead of 4) - for that you need a Cat5 Ethernet cable.

And a number of USB ports.

You didn't tell us what kind of connection your modem has, so it's hard to say which cable you need?

If you don't have an ethernet jack (the wide jack) on the back of your computer, you'll have to use a usb cable. You will need a A/B usb cable.
