Cow tipping is purely a urban legend. It is often repeated to be a pastime supposedly practiced in rural areas. It is used to get the uninformed to do something foolish while the "tipster" stands laughing at a safe distance. Sara Brantmeier, editor of America's largest dairy industry magazine was quoted as saying in the June of 2001, in the Charleston Gazette, "that cow tipping is a myth and the whole idea is stupid, but humorous, and she confirmed that cows do not sleep while standing up and she's never known of any authentic cow tipping. Some even consider the attempt to practice it as an act of animal abuse. The act is theoretically performed by participants who sneak up on an upright, sleeping cow and push it over for amusement. There are factors which make success in this unlikely, and a variety of calculations have been applied to determine if cow tipping is physically possible, sometimes with humorous intention.
In 2004, a Florida legislator proposed a ban on "cruelty to bovines", which while not specific to cow tipping, included language that would apply to cow tipping: "A person who, for the purpose of practice, entertainment, or sport, intentionally fells, trips, or otherwise causes a cow to fall or lose its balance by means of roping, lassoing, dragging, or otherwise touching the tail of the cow commits a misdemeanor of the first degree."

It's what you do alot down here in OK and TX and it is supposed to be done as a joke. It is actually quite mean though. At night you sneak out in the field when a cow is sleeping and push it over. Some people think it's funny....I'll never understand why. It doesn't really hurt the cow....but I don't understand what they think is cute about it....the struggling to get up? How would you like someone to come over and push you over if you had to stand up and sleep? Not talking to you Pickie....I'm talking to those who have done it and still think it's funny!

Apparently some cows sleep on their feet.
Not that I ever done it, but if you sneak into a cowfield late at night, you can push a sleeping cow over onto her side.

When you are mean to a cow(someone/thing) when he is not looking and then you run away!!!! Or knock down a cow when he is sleeping!!!!

well cow tipping is where you sneak onto the farm, and you just slightly knock them over.
me and my friend tried it once on her farm :)
