The 2007 corolla stock is rapidly running low since the 08s are in the lot and I can get a Corolla LE for a bargain14.6K with side airbags (important for me). How much do people expect the discount to be on a Civic LX once the 08s roll into the lot? Do you expect a 17K car to drop to low 15Ks or will it still be around 16K or more? Thanks for the advice!

No one can know exactly. Every place is different. But you do seem to be researching properly and that is very important.
Good luck with your decision.

Honda just put a dealer incentive on the Civic to reduce the price by $650 on the '07 models. That will drop the transaction price by about that amount, so, as an example, if the best deal you've been quoted is $16,750, then the 'new transaction price' will be $16,100 with the application of the dealer incentive. Honda has never done, and probably will never do customer rebates; they give the money to the dealers to incentivize the dealers to discount the cars and increase the sales. You may see some great lease deals at the end of the year (the 07 Accord LX lease of $199 is a tremendous deal), but I don't think you'll see any more by way of Honda incentives to lower the price on the 07's.

As much as I love Hondas and strongly recommend them, you're never going to get down into the "low 15k" range on the Civic LX. If price is the critical factor, then the Toyota will be less than the Civic for the remainder of this model year.

The one thing about Hondas versus Toyota is that Honda traditionally holds its value and has a higher retained value when you go to sell it. so unless you plan on keeping the car forever, the additional price for the Honda may be gained back on the resale later. Just another factor to consider.

hope that helps answer your question
