Whom they know little or nothing about?

Maybe they have mental disorders themselves, haha! But seriously, some people seem to see everything that is wrong with everyone else and assume, based on their own personal experiences, that "other" people they might not know so well are similar or the same. I've personally been through mental health issues in my life over the past ten years and it isn't something that even the most qualified doctors can easily diagnose, let alone a "common" person. Anyone with basic knowledge of psychology should know that true mental illness is difficult to diagnose in most cases. I bet that if every person were required to see someone qualified just once, most people would end up diagnosed with something because all of us have faults, fears, irrationalities, insecurities, etc. that have the potential to influence our mood at any given moment. The human mind is the most complex and unknown place for a reason...

I think they should (1) break out the DSM amd try to read and understand it. If they can read, spell and pronounce the words they may be qualified to go to step 2.
(2) They should then break out Old Noah Webster and try looking up the definitions so that they have a clue as to what the big scary words actually mean. Once they can do this they can move along to step 3
(3) Now that they have shown that they can read, spell and comprehend, maybe they should take a good look at themselves and question just who they think they are to judge and label others in such a mannor.. I think some people are self centered to the point that they cant see past themselves to the point that they are insensative towards others who may have problems of their own.

HA!

Really that is all I can say to that, it is ridiculous.

Unfortunately too many people who study or go into the field of psychology don't know enough to know they don't know everything. They think they know everything about people right away, and they are constatly judging others when what they should really be doing is studying and observing. A persons true personality doesn't shine through until they let you through their outter facade. There are certain things that are just inevitable and easy to see, I have a brother who is a Schitzophrenic, pretty straight forward, yet still complicated. Most other mental "quirks" (I don't really think they are so much defects) involve complex personality disorders that need to be understood more in and of themselves, let alone being able to outright recognize them in others with whom you have little contact.

The short answer is I think they need to feel better about themselves and thinking they know how to tell others what is wrong with them accomplishes that. Using the mask and guise of psychology removes their guilt of doing so.

This is actually a legal question that i was taught back in the day, I think it was Thursday.

A layman can voice his/her opinion with impunity so long as it is not slanderous or defamitory.

On the other hand, anyone with education and or creditionals in the field for which they speak has a fiduciary responsibility to the person(s) to which one speaks not to give unsubtantiated or unresearched opinions because it is assumed by the courts that with knowledge comes the power to influence others to do things they would not do otherwise.

That is why I am a little fearful of people who come to this site and ask for a legal, medical or financial opinion. They should not rely on it at face value and if it comes from a self proclaimed expert then that person should be required to list themself as a doctor, lawyer or accountant and put their license up so that if they do damage they can be punished accordingly.

The word "diagnose" assumes that the person is a doctor. If they are not a doctor then all the person is doing is stating his/her opinion and you can give it all the wait it deserves, probably nothing.

"So tell me, how long have you been having these questions?"

"Do you get along with your parents?"

"Do you think that everybody is out to get you?"

"I don't know, what do you think."

"Interesting, go on...."

Maybe they are extremely humble, & dont tell all their titles. Sometimes people are qualified in the spirit which over rides the flesh or mundane. Oh , that is if you believe it.
There is a lot of self taught people in the world without the $ to get a little paper. Sometimes their experiences are the greatest teachers and can help others more because they have been there , so be careful of those judgments.

Well some people have the disorder and can comment on the subject. I think that when people ask about it on here they are just really trying to find someone else who is going thru what they are going thru. When you have a Mental disorder you feel like you are the only one who has it. Knowing someone else has it can help a lot.

I have a degree in Psychology. It would have been my career had I not caught the law bug. I am well qualified to make a diagnosis about people.

Yeah Yeah I know "Physician Heal Thyself"

Welcome to my hell! My ex was this way. Actually, she diagnosed individuals with no disorders too, and even went so far as to diagnose a psychologist with a disorder. If you don't agree with her you get diagnosed. She loved to read about this field, it fascinated her. I have to say she did get some correct, but, when you shoot a shotgun, chances are at least one pellet will hit the target.

Well, going on the assumption that 95% of the human population is crazy; I'd say it would be a pretty safe guess.
