I'm not sure if I understand your question 100%, but what I think you mean is like this:

Digg is a social news media site, meaning that individual users post news on different subjects (tech, headlines, politics, photos, videos,etc) and then people votes on it and comment on the stories.

There are many other social media sites out there, but I would say that Netscape is the opposite. Typically runs different types of stories (more political and headline news vs. the tech stories on Digg). Most people remember Netscape as a browser or a portal, but that all changed just over a year ago.
