My dad sailed to Archangel as a 15 year old on the arctic convoy's aboard a merchant aircraft carrier(MAC).

He is a very shy person, and doesn't think what he did was special, as far as he was concerned it was a job. There is an organisation of arctic convoy veterans, but he has never joined.

He has some horrific stories about the cold and being attacked by U boats and Focke Wolfe Condors, and other German Bombers.
