Calvin: My son-in-law is being deployed shortly and if I could, I would take his place so he could remain with his family. Wife and three children ages 8, 2 and 2 months.
So the short answer is, yes I would.
And for the record, he is no dummy, he has two college degrees, but chose to do this instead after 9-11. And yes, I am damn proud of the boy.

If I had enlisted in the Armed Services, of course I would go. To ask anybody who is not is a foolish question. And one with an obvious bias and with disingenuous intent.

I would stand in stunned silence. Then I would say no because if he's so desperate that he has to ask me of all people, then I would have lost all respect in him -- which I lost years ago. Right now he's at negative 1000 respectiveness points. :p
