I am an English / Irish American and was recentlly at a fantastic wedding for my Indian friend. Before the wedding, her four sisters told me that my dresses would never do and presented me with 8 saris. 7 are more casual and one is very elegant and formal. I wore several of them durring the three days of the wedding ceremony. They are so beautiful, easy to wear, and comfortable that I'd love to wear them occasionally as incorporated into the rest of my casuel clothes. I am an average Home Mom. I go to pick up my kids at school, brownie leader, Soccer mom, knitter, grocery shopper. I wear pants, shorts, skirts, tee-shirts and jeans like everyone else.

Can I wear my saris sometimes? Would people be offended because I'm not Indian?

To the guy comparing a Muumuu to a Sari... You have no clue whats going on here.

To the Irish guy who wants to wear a sari, too... How about a kilt? I saw an awsome one a few days ago.

Thanks everyone. If you see someone at a parent-teacher conference wearing a peach and aqua sari, it will be me.

Indians wear western clothes all the time, so why shouldn't you wear theirs?

I am Irish American partially, I would like to wear a sari too, but I am a guy so i have to settle for a loin cloth a turban and a bugle. Isn't that a bummer? Wear what you want they are beautiful, but people ar likely to think you have joined a cult if you do; Tammy....Way Haul away oh haul away Joe!

I think it's okay for you to wear sari's sometimes. I'm an indian (though I was born in california) when I go to birthdays, holy communions (of my cousins or relatives), and party's I see alot of people that are not indians wearing sari's. I mean sari's are very pretty and stuff and I think it's okay for you to wear them anywhere you like even if your not an indian.

I'm Indian/Arab and I'm not offended if gori's (white girls), wear sarees. Just wear it if you like it, but don't be surprised if an old Indian auntie will walk up to you and undo your saree without asking if she thinks you're wearing it improperly :P

No, then you'd be just one step away from a muumuu. Its all downhill from there.
