when I gave them old fashioned popcorn, made in a pop corn popper, all was fine and they totally LOVED it..but I gave them some microwaved popcorn and it totally sizzled when it hit the water
Does anyone know what caused the sizzle sound?

The microwaved popcorn probably has a coating from the oil the kernels we surrounded by in order for the corn to pop. If this is still hot when dropped into water, then naturally you get a sizzling sound just as if you added a drop of water to a bowl of hot cooking oil.

The sizzle sound is caused by the fluffy starch material (the 'popped' part of the popcorn) rapidly disintegrating as the water destroys the starch bonds.

The popcorn kernel was probably hot. I wouldn't recommend feeding reptiles hot food, remember they are cold-blooded.
