Unless you're setting out to do a complete restoration of the vehicle sandblasting is going to be the wrong choice. It's wonderful for complete frame-off restorations but costly and ineffective for someone just looking to get there paint "decent".

The first thing to keep in mind is sandblasting will reveal all the damage to your vehicle you didn't know it had. It's probably had bondo applied at some point and probably has loads of "weak" metal near the skirts and wheel wells. Sandblasting will tear this weak metal in seconds. When restoring a vehicle for the classic car circuits this is a must. Bondo and covered up damage or rust results in immediate disqualification.

If you do choose this route you can expect to pay $400 - $800 depending on where you live and thousands more to correct the damage you're not seeing. Metal has to be cut out, new pieces reformed, welded in, ground to match, etc.

If you'd like to work more towards a budget and a decent paint finish forget about sandblasting and take it to a local painter. The normal procedure will involve sanding the entire vehicle smooth, patching any rust/replacing panels, and then applying paint to a prepped surface. Usually a 2 step paint process that will most likely result in a smile on your face. The total cost will be substantially lower than gutting the vehicle, sandblasting the metal, and filling in the pieces.
