I would have to go with Tim Duncan because he has a winning attitude every night, coming through in both the regular season and playoffs. In contrast, Peyton Manning performs during the regular season, choking in the playoffs. He has an attitude of a sore loser, blaming his defense and receivers when things do not go his way.

Peyton Manning is still a joke, until he proves to me that he can handle at least three quarterbacks in the playoffs with ratings of 90.0 or better. Tim Duncan has probably had to work much harder in one playoff game against the Pheonix Suns--shutting down Steve Nash--than Peyton Manning had to work in his whole 2007 playoff run.

When I said that Tim Duncan shutting down Steve Nash, I meant that Duncan was giving Nash a hard time in the painted area. If you watched the Suns vs. Spurs, Duncan contested many of Nash's shots in the painted area. As a result, a lot of Nash's layups were not falling. Steve Nash had to earn his points by taking jump shots.

I agree with you. Currently I think Duncan is a better player in NBA. Peyton finally won the Super Bowl last season but he still has a lot to prove. In NFL Tom Brady is a better quarterback then Peyton. If Peyton wants to become a great player he needs to be more of a team player and win a few more Super Bowls!

This doesn't sound like a question so much as an excuse for you to talk about how little you like Peyton Manning.

I'm not sure now Manning is supposed to "handle" other QBs, considering that he doesn't play defense. His job is to go out and put up points, and he does that better than any quarterback in the NFL. He's likely to go down as one of the 2-3 best of all-time, while I'm not sure the same can be said of Duncan. And you talk about Duncan shutting down Nash, but last time I looked Duncan wasn't out on the perimeter guarding Nash - that's left to others.

Finally, what do you mean about Peyton choking in the playoffs? I guess winning the Super Bowl isn't good enough for you? Maybe he should have thrown for 8,000 yards in the game, and stopped the Bears' offense by himself, too?

EDIT - Your point about Duncan makes more sense now. Still, I think you're shorting Manning here. I'm not a Colts fan, but the guy is good.

I think it isn't really possible to compare guys abilities that are from to different sports. Bball a player plays all the time and he plays offense and defense. In Fball a player learns his position and unless his position is to be a utility guy he contributes to one side of the ball.

I like Duncan but as good as he is he isn't good enough to change How basketball is played. Peyton has changed the game of Football, is amoung the smartest players to ever play the game and that is something special. Dan Marino never won a superbowl but he was a great player. Not everybody gets to the show but it dosen't make them any less great. Peyton has time to do more and he has already accomplished a lot.

I think they are both overrated.

Peyton Manning has the best reciever in the game (Marvin Harrison). Harrison also led the league in diving catches. He wouldn't have had to dive so much, if Manning could pass. Also, The Colts have the best O-line in the NFL. If Vick had that much time, he wouldn't be running at all. Next, the running game flourishes because of the line's blocking, so he can throw the long ball and fool his opponents.

Tim Duncan only won the championship because of a corrupt ref (who knows how many Spurs championship games he reffed). Also, most defenses are worrying to much about Parker and Ginobli to focus on him. Anyone can make a layup, if they're open and 6"11. Plus, Duncan is not becoming a team leader. Parker is stepping in where Duncan is failing.

i would say peyton manning bc he is the most dominant player in the most important position in his sport. you could contend that Shaq is (or rather was) more dominant than duncan and that kg is not far behind... peyton is in a league of his own and after it is all over with he will be better than my idol marino. furthermore the spurs do not win bc of duncan, they win bc of their defense and team mentality, something that super stars help maintain but is up to coaches to create (no offense to tony dungy). i think that tim duncan = tom brady. the question is, who would you rather take, peyton or brady?

brady is a first ballot hall of famer in my book, he just doesnt compete with peyton who i see as the GOAT.
