This is a tricky situation that has a high chance of not being resolved with any product or procedure you use to correct it.

It really depends on what type of scouring pad you used, the pressure you applied when using it, and how long you worked an area. If the scratches are deep, by deep I mean you can feel them if you run your fingers across them....there's not much you can do without replacing the windshield.

If however you used gentle force and have very minor scratches (an abundance of them I assume) you may be able to use a glass buffing compound. DO NOT use car wax or any other type of product formulated for your vehicles paint. If you don't know what you're doing here you may make it much worse. The glass buffing compound can be found at most auto parts stores and some department stores, follow the directions closely and hope for the best.

Make sure when applying the compound the windshield is cool and out of the sun. If it seems to help a little bit but doesn't completely treat the problem (no matter how many times you apply) take it to a local glass shop. They sell glass compound of varying degrees (similar to sandpaper). They will recommend a 2-3 step system. Start with a rough compound and work your way down to an extremely fine compound.

In closing if you feel the scratches are minor attempt to use general store bought glass compound. It runs between $6 and $12 a bottle. If this fails check with a glass company for alternatives for repair. If the scratches are deep you will have no choice but to live with it or replace it.

Windshield glass is pretty hard stuff. If you had to use a scouring pad to get egg off, you may have waited too long to get the egg before it got cooked in the sun. There are some scratch treatments for windshields, but in a very short time you will not be able to see clearly through the blemishes. Best to go directly to an automotive glass shop and have a replacement windshield installed while you wait. Call around, they are not too expensive unless you have some kind of classic or collector car.

There are several items on the market that fix the tiny scratches. Some work just like car polish (wax on, wax off). Do a search for 'glass scratch fix' and you'll get quite a list.

Try using a car polish followed by a wax. Most of the time if the scratches are minor enough it will fill them in and get rid of the scratches.

Brass or silver-polish will remove light scratches from glass, but it's a long job.
