Cooked chicken bones yes, they splinter. On the raw diet people feed raw chicken bones and all. I have given the raw to my dog, but it makes me uncomfortable. I heard pros and cons on the raw diet so I just stopped. Take care;~}

It's not a good idea to give dogs chicken bones. They are small and can become swallowed hole and then easily become lodged in the gut. This is the same reason as it's not a good idea for cats - it could even be worse for dogs though as they're more likely to swallow small pieces, or shards of bone whole. Not saying it would definitely happen if you feed your dog chicken bones, but it can happen and it just isn't worth the risk.

Absolutely dangerous for dogs to have chicken bones! Chicken bones splinter when chewed up, leaving sharp edges and points, which can get logged in your dogs throat, stomach or intestinal tract. Under no circumstances should you ever give your dog a chicken bone.

First, I'm strongly against BSL and don't think that outlawing any certain breed, whether it be labradors, chows or chihuahuas solves problems based in owner ignorance or bad breeding. I firmly believe that there's no such thing as a bad dog- they're not capable of malice, only instinct. However, I also think it's foolish to completely ignore a dog's genetics or a breed's background. I know LOTS of friendly Staffordshire and bully mixes, but they were in fact bred to be animal aggressive- bull baiting and fighting. The same goes for the Chow- among other things, bred for protection of the home, where a certain amount of fearlessness and aggression was desired. Ignoring these facts does little service to the dog. Unfortunately, until people stop thinking that all dogs can be the perfect family pet, without work on the part of the owner or careful breeding among comitted people, governments and insurance companies will continue to feel as though they need to mitigate damage caused by aggressive, fearful or confused dogs and their negligent owners. I also think that 90% of dog owners do not need to have an intact dog. I know I don't. It might not make a dog bad, but I don't trust most people to maintain their dogs responsibly. My dog was almost mauled by an intact boxer who charged him out of nowhere- the guy seemed almost proud- the same reason he apparently kept him intact, he thought such aggressive behavior was "manly." Come on. The article is bogus, though. It's an essay on misinformation. Someday I hope they take the stigma off the breeds and put it where it belongs- irresponsible humans.

Yes it is very bad to give a dog chicken bones, because, unlike lamb or beef bones, they can splinter very easilt and cause your pet to choke or have internal bleeding, you can check online for bones which are safe for your pets. Good luck!

chicken bones will splinter and can slice up the inside of the dog. They can also become lodged in the throat and kill the dog.
However, I am thinking it is only cooked chicken bones that cause harm, as foxes, coyotes, wolves all prey on chickens, and you don't see them popping up dead all over the place.

Yes, any type of natural bone shouldn't be given to cats or dogs, they can get lodged in the animals intestine and cause death.
