Should I tell my dr. we want to ttc or should we just go for it? Are there tests that need to be done to be sure we'll have a healthy baby or is that just a waste of money and I should go see the dr. once a hpt comes out positive? I've been off the pill since August 2006 and have been using a spermacide since. Not sure how long it will take us... thanks!

You should go in for a Pre-Conception Visit. If you don't have an OB/Gyn this would be a good time to find one. Make an appt. If you haven't had a pap done in a while they will want to do another. And they will give you an RX for a prenatal vitamin. Also, there are blood tests such as rubella, chickenpox, hep B, that can and should be done before you start trying. Also, if you are on any meds they can get that adjusted before you get pregnant. Be responsible, make the appt with an OB/Gyn.

I think you should see your doc first. He might want to do Rubella tests etc to make sure you are vaccinated against it. You want your baby to get the best possbile start in life so it makes sense to have a doc appoint to discuss your own health.
