Can they? Of course they can, with the exception of diplomatic immunity, anyone can be prosecuted in any country according to that countries laws, religous based or otherwise.

Yup. Any nation that has a death penalty can execute anyone who violates a law that carries a death penalty punishment, though the nation to whom the naitonal belonged might have something to say about this.
