Yes, you'll probably have to talk to a manager though. You can even negotiate with sears, or jc penny. Every store out there will allow you to negotiate. I would try to talk them into 25% off. then settle for like 18%

ABSOLUTELY. I have a motto, "I pay retail for nothing!!" I've gotten tremendous deals on furniture.
First, try and go to a family owned store instead of the chains, or go to a chain store, but one that's either in a location that doesn't get much traffic, or one where there's alot of traffic and a whole lot of salesmen. (Competition lowers prices).
Next, walk in and go straight to the items you're looking for. If it's bedroom furniture, open the drawers and look at the way the drawers fit to the face (dovetailed joints or tacked and glued, etc.). The idea is to look like you know what you're looking at, "kicking the tires" so to speak.
Someone will inevitably come up and talk to you, so tell them what you're looking for, but when they ask you how much, say you're not sure, you want something nice.
Consider two or three items, let them give you prices. Ask them if that's the best they can do and tell them you're paying cash? If they say yes, thank them for their time and tell them you just don't think the furniture is worth that (politely of course). This usually opens them up to dealing at which point you can ask them to make another offer, or make yours. If it doesn't....try leaving. I've actually had a man chase me through a mall to sell me furniture. I bought a $1600 entertainment wall unit and a $1000 dining room set for $1300. Trust me....they'll deal.
Main thing to keep in mind....the markup on furniture is huge. The guy that sold me the stuff for $1300 was still making pretty good money.

Yeah, you can negotiate to a degree. It is easy to get them to add in free delivery and things like that. If what you want is $3000 but you only have $2900, then tell them. That is a decent size sale to them and they will be willing to do whatever to make the sell. If they don't act willing ask if you can talk to the manager. If they still don't act interested then tell them you saw something very similar at a competitor in the area and it was cheaper. That will usually get them going. At the very least, make sure you get free delivery. That is a piece of cake to get. Good Luck!

Sure you can talk them down. But they will only go so low. They may offer free financing or sales tax paid or some other incentive.

Sometimes. Especially if it's a small, independently owned place. Sometimes the bigger chains (like Levitz, etc.) don't negotiate as easily - they might try to get you to finance the remainder....
