If your drive is using NTFS (rather than FAT32) on the drive your could apply permissions to the folder (and sub-folders) to limit who has access to it (a moot point if you keep your system logged in as yourself.)

Not on the folder itself.
You can apply passwords to the excel files (then requiring the password to open/view them).
Or, you could compress the folder with a compression tool that allows password protecting before unzipping, effectively doing the same thing.

If there are multiple logons on the computer, password protect your logon and the file system is NTFS.

Use windows explorer and right click on the folder you wish to protect.

Left click on Properties.

Left click on the sharing tab (top middle)

Make sure Network and security check boxes are UNchecked

Check the box by "Make this folder private".

The only time this folder can be accessed is when you are logged in.

well , i think the best method for protect excel files ( it's usual lite) is zipping it with password protraction . so do this you may use "winrar" is popular tool , once you download and setup it right-click on folder you want to protect choose "Add to archives..." then click on advanced then set your password , for more protection check " Encrypt file names" box , now click "ok" , now delete the original folder . every time you extract your Zipped file winrar will ask you for the password .
if you don't think that will take long time you can use a software like AutoKrypt 7.34 ,Folder Crypto Password 3.0.0.3
, Folder Password Expert 2.1 ,Virtual Vision 1 .
Regards .

i don't think so however you can protect each excel files with a password. Click on save or save as.. enter the filename then before hitting enter or ok.. click on tools on the same window (on the lower left from where you type your filename) then general options and enter the password to open/modify.

You can save the files individually with a password, select "save as" then on the tool bar that appears select "tools" then "general options" and assign your password to it.
