I'm not a huge fan of Al Gore's global warming crusade, but... if he got in the race, would it tip the race upside down? If he was nominated, would it guarantee a Democratic win in 2008?

I guess what I'm getting at is that I don't think that Obama can win, Hillary excites the right and is so polarizing, Edwards has leaned so far to the left and Richardson is kinda creepy. I think this is the Dems race to lose, but they seem so intent on losing it... is there anyone else out there that thinks Gore could ride in and win?

nice answers so far. i guess i'm in agreement that Gore won't run as the race is currently constituted, but I'm not thrilled about voting for Hillary, and can't see even possibly voting for the Repubs. I'd get happy about voting for her if she was running against Giuliani, for all the talk about fascists and GWB, that man is the real deal.

As far as Jeb getting elected, I think his brother has queered his chances of that happening.

I also don't know about a Clinton/Obama ticket. I think that America could elect a woman in 2008, but I don't see the math being there for Obama winning a national election, and I think that residual racism would doom a female/black ticket... I'd vote for that ticket, but then I'd vote for virtually any ticket that the Dems put up that didn't have Kucinich on it.

Gore would definately change the course of the democratic primaries. He would instantly be right there with Hillary and Obama (altho, it's not really fair to put Obama in the same league with Hillary, because she is leading by 15 - 20% over him).

Could Gore beat Hillary out for the nom? Yes. Definately. Would he? We probably will never know, because I seriously doubt he will get involved. If he did, he would probably get my vote. Hillary does not excite me, seems to status quo, and Obama is far too inexperienced for these times.

What I think will end up happening though is a Hillary/Obama ticket. That, I think will end up being a ticket the GOP will not be able to beat. Espeicially seeing the GOP voters are voting loud and clear they dont like ANY of their current choices.

The answer is no. The reason Al Gore will not run is because he is an also ran. In the 2000 election Gore benefited from the fact that not many people really knew much about him, especially how much of a fanatical environmentalist he really is. Today that is not the case. Most people are very familiar with Al Gore and the general perception of him outside of the liberal enclaves is not a good one. If the Democrats really want to win the White House again, they need to look for someone who can unite people with a positive message and by doing so draw in the moderates as they are the ones who really sway Presidential elections in the end. To date the Democrats are not doing this believing that a hatred of Bush will sweep them into power, but again as they have in the last 2 Presidential elections, they are over-estimating their prospects given the current crop running.

Al Gore already stated he was not running, stop spamming him. Clinton will win the nomination and the election, with the help of Bill of course. Its already fixed 8 years of Clinton, 8 years of Jeb Bush. After she receives a bump once Obama drops out.

A little.
It would be a total defeat for John Edwards.
It would make Clinton a little scared, and make Obama gather more strength.
Why?
It is going to be all talk of Gore vs. Clinton.
Leaving the American people annoyed of the two.
Giving Obama a clear pass.
I can see a Obama/Gore campaign. It a solid, non-deaftable campaign.

Nope. Algore would only cause polarizing heat among the ranks.

With Obama and Hilcat running so strong, the conservatives better put someone up who's strong.

I don't know about "win", but it would make the debates a lot more entertaining to watch.
