If your friends and family clash have two parties. One the day of and one around the day of your birthday. That way you can have a down-to-earth cake and family time party and then get someone to drive you somewhere for a more out-and-about fun party.

Happy Birthday from a Dad & Granddad! Invite family and friends. Usually the younger people in the group will sort of congregate together and can still chat and have some clean fun without Family all around, unless you have cousins your age and that's okay too. Besides, the Sweet Sixteen should be the "BIG ONE".

If you don't want to mix them up then try having a party with your friends in the evening and go for dinner in a fancy restaurant with you family. This way you can have both and also more gifts.

Why not ask if you can invite both? Or have friends over on a separate day.
