So many books, so little time. . . I agree with many of the books already suggested such as Brave New World, Of Mice and Men and Night, but I have to go with:
Non Fiction: Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee by Dee Brown, because so many people have little understanding of American Indian History. (Don't watch the HBO movie, actually read the book--ok, so you can watch the HBO movie AFTER you read the book!)
Fiction: The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley because, besides being so captivating that you won't want to put it down, it is the BEST version of the Arthurian legend available--and I've read most of them. (Don't watch the movie, even if you read the book--the movie will be a huge disappointment).
Honorable Mention: The Seat of the Sout by Gary Zukav and Ethics for a New Millenium by His Holiness the Dali Lama (both life-changing)

Sorry, I've never read Fahrenheit 451 but would agree with those who suggested "To Kill A Mockingbird". I read it as a kid and saw the movie - both are phenomenal.

Of Mice and Men. Good question, have a star!
In regards to the answer "A Piece of Cake", I saw a Montell episode with Cupcake as a guest. Her story is unbelievable. She went from living on the streets to becoming an attorney.

I just finished a Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown.
It was the most heartwrenchingly inspiring story I have ever read. I think it's a must for everyone.
It tells the story of a little Girl who looses her Mother at 11 and her fight for Survival.
